This position is responsible for global activities and strategic leadership related to technology and product development for all Balcke-Dürr product groups. Tasks include strategic planning, new technology identification, staffing, SG&A budgets, project selection, patents, technical presentations and papers, and testing services. The incumbent oversees the leadership of the research and development team for Balcke-Dürr including R&D Engineering, laboratory testing, and patents. This role will report to the VP of Global R&D.
Strategic / Organizational
· Oversee Research and Development activities including product development, R&D technical services, laboratory testing, patents
· Interface with marketing, and business unit general and product managers to drive best practices across the BU for:
· Product development stage gate processes
· Selection for new product and product improvement projects
· Development of scientific strategic plans for the business
· Allocation and management of resources in pursuit of the BU strategy
· Manage the research team and continuously improve processes and individual competencies, to create a quick, responsive, and accurate technical team that will provide a superior level of research, product development, and technical support for all product lines
· Instill creativity within the organization always challenging the technology status quo
· Manage the operations of the
· Implementation of process control and metrics for R&D and new product development
· Prepare and review new product development project and business plans
· Liaise and commission when appropriate outside parties on matters relating to procurement and scientific research for new products and technologies

Technical
· Strong technical knowledge and recognized authority of power plants, power plant systems, and heat exchanger design
· Knowledge of theoretical background of finite element programs, numerical CFD programs, technical mechanics, thermodynamics, material science, and pressure vessel design
· Identify scientific opportunities and competitive threats
· Facilitate links with professional and regulatory bodies and commercial organizations
· Consult with reports and other business leaders on technical issues or design elements
· Review, prepare and present technical presentations and papers for various events
· Train, mentor, and advise technical personnel in the design, science, and functionality of products

Education/Experience
